About the Westbourne Centre
The Westbourne Centre is a medical centre, bringing together a diverse group of specialists with the support of a committed company to provide state-of-the-art facilities, to enable them to do the highest quality procedures and treatments in the world today.
Each specialist is devoted to delivering the safest, least-invasive solution for every patient. As innovators within their specialist areas, our consultants constantly review medical advancements. As good listeners, they are committed to ensuring the chosen option is absolutely right for the individual. From initial consultation through treatment and then aftercare, your consultant is fully engaged every step of the way.
The Westbourne Centre was launched in January 2009 by four well-established surgeons who wanted to provide a safe and pleasant environment for their patients, and have the opportunity to work collaboratively to bring about new methods for treatments.
The surgeons Mr Fazel Fatah, Mr Hiroshi Nishikawa, Mr Stephen Dover and Mr Anthony Summerwill created a joint venture with the global hospital company, Ramsay Healthcare Group. The addition of Ramsay Healthcare to The Westbourne Centre ensured hospital operations support and access to the most advanced clinical technologies.
The location for The Westbourne Centre was purposefully chosen to be at the heart of the country: Edgbaston, Birmingham, West Midlands.

Local Anaesthetic and Sedation
A primary concern when planning any type of surgical procedure is the anaesthetic and the prospect of being “completely under”.
The Westbourne Centre is one of the few day surgery facilities in the UK offering major surgical procedures using a local anaesthetic with sedation.
Local anaesthesia stops pain during a medical procedure by blocking pain signals from being carried by nerves to the brain. A person having local anaesthesia will be awake during the procedure, although it can be combined with sedation to lessen the awareness.Read more
