Dr Martin-Clavijo graduated from the renowned University of Salamanca Medical School in 1995. He started to do research in skin ageing and the effect of antioxidants. He continued as a research fellow until 1997 when he gained the highest award by the university for his PHD. He moved to the UK in 1997 where he trained in General Medicine (becoming a diplomat of the Royal College of Physicians) and then in Dermatology as part of the highly regarded West Midlands Rotation. He has been a Consultant Dermatologist since May 2008. He splits his NHS time between skin oncology, cutaneous surgery and general dermatology. He is a core member of the skin cancer multidisciplinary team and is also actively involved in research. He represents the Dermatology Department in the Hospital Medicines Management Expert Panel and in the West Midlands Dermatology Training Committee.
