Gastric Balloon

How it works

The soft silicone balloon is filled with sterile saline, occupying a large portion of your stomach. This restricts the volume of food you can eat and also suppresses hunger as it stretches the stomach wall, tricking the brain into believing that the stomach is full.

It is a temporary procedure and depending on the balloon that you choose, will be removed after 6 or 12 months. It is a kick start to weight loss that when combined with our nutritionist and behavioural support can help you to adapt your eating and lifestyle habits for the future.

The procedure

Placing the gastric balloon in the stomach is carried out as a day case procedure and requires only light sedation. The procedure takes approximately 20-30 minutes and you are normally discharged after a few hours’ observation.

Aftercare

Although the balloon is a weight loss tool, unless you commit to changing your eating and lifestyle patterns, any weight loss will be temporary. Our support team will help you to achieve excellent results with long term success.
