Professor Sai Kolli is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based at the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. He is the lead consultant for cataract and cornea at University Hospitals Birmingham. Professor Kolli undertook his medical training at the University of Cambridge where he graduated with First Class honours. He started his Ophthalmology career over 20 years ago obtaining his Membership of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2001 and subsequently became a Fellow of Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2005. He went on to complete 3 years of academic research in the field of corneal stem cell biology culminating in the award of a PhD in 2009. Professor Kolli is one of the few consultants who has been fellowship trained both in corneal and external disease as well as cataract and refractive surgery. He completed his specialist training at the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital where he started as a consultant in 2010. In 2011, he moved to Birmingham to head up the corneal department at University Hospitals Birmingham where he provides a tertiary referral service for cornea and cataract. Professor Kolli is a national expert in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery and teaches and lectures across the UK and internationally. Mr Kolli has also been trained in all aspects of general ophthalmology. Professor Kolli's extensive training, qualifications and experience in cataract, lens, corneal and laser surgery means he can offer the tailor-made treatment to ensure the best possible outcomes. He prides himself on his open and honest approach and provides first class medical and surgical eye services to patients across the region and beyond.


Mr Maged Nessim - Ophthalmology

Mr Maged Nessim consults on all aspects of general Ophthalmology with special interests in: •Small incision Cataract Surgery •Glaucoma •Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty, YAG and Argon •Trabeculectomy, Aqueous shunts

Academic Background

Mr Nessim completed his specialist Ophthalmology training in the West Midlands followed by two fellowships in Glaucoma at Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre and the internationally renowned Glaucoma surgery fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. He accepted the post of Consultant at Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre in 2009. Mr Nessim is an expert in small incision cataract surgery, glaucoma filtration procedures and aqueous shunt implantation for complex Glaucoma cases. His research interests are in Glaucoma Biomarkers, intraocular pressure's measurements in collaboration with the University of Birmingham. He has many peer reviewed publications and has presented in many national and international conferences in the field of Cataract and Glaucoma.


Mr Mark Wevill - Ophthalmology

Mr Mark Wevill specialises in vision correction surgery (correcting focus errors of the eyes so that people can be as free of glasses as possible), especially cataract and refractive surgery.

Academic Background

Mr Mark Wevill specialises in cataract and refractive surgery (to correct focus errors of the eyes). He completed his Ophthalmic Surgery and refractive surgery training and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Ophthalmology and the World College of Refractive Surgery & Visual Sciences. Mr. Wevill has also achieved additional qualifications in refractive surgery including the diploma in Refractive surgery from the University of Ulster and the Certificate in Laser Refractive Surgery from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

He has been doing laser eye surgery, and cataract and lens replacement surgery for over 25 years and has done 20 000 treatments to correct focus errors of the eyes. He has experience in a wide range of refractive surgery techniques. Mr Wevill has written chapters in 7 textbooks that other surgeons refer to, has written scientific articles and has been invited to give presentations to other eye surgeons at more than 20 international eye surgery conferences. He does charitable work in South Africa, Swaziland, and Uganda and he is on the Charity Committee of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the International Advisory board of Medical Missions Eswatini.
