AKA Chipmunk cheeks Hamster cheeks
The removal of buccal fat is for people who are unhappy with the natural shape of their cheeks.
What is a buccal fat removal procedure?
A buccal fat removal procedure removes the buccal fat pad, which is an area of fat in the cheek hollow area. Some people have a bigger fat pad in this area compared to others and choose to have it removed to create a more defined area.
What happens during a buccal fat removal procedure?
This procedure is minimally invasive and only a local anaesthetic is required. Incisions will be made in the inside of the mouth between the gums and the cheek meaning there will be no external scarring. Once the buccal fat is removed, the incision is closed with dissolvable sutures.
How long does it take to recover?
The recovery time is minimal. There may be some swelling after surgery but this will usually subside within a week.
