The surgical excision of a tattoo involves cutting out the entire tattoo under local anaesthetic and is a safe, effective, affordable and straightforward solution to unwanted tattoos.
The excision of a tattoo is done in a single session whereby the tattooed skin is removed and the skin stitched back together. Depending upon the size of the tattoo, a small skin graft may also be an option. The results are immediate, leaving a linear scar in place of the old tattoo. The scarring usually fades after about 6-8 months.
Am I suitable for surgical tattoo removal?
There are limitations as to what can be achieved surgically and this will depend predominantly on the size and location of the tattoo as well as the skin laxity. A consultation with one of our consultant plastic surgeons will determine whether you are a suitable candidate for surgical treatment.
