A bunion (or hallux valgus) is a bony lump on the side of the foot at the base of the big toe, causing the big toe to point more towards the other toes rather than straight ahead. It may be painful and make it difficult to wear certain shoes.
Different treatments can be used to relieve this condition and your consultant will advise the most appropriate for you depending upon the size and severity of the bunion, and the shape of your foot.
A typical bunion surgery consists of realigning the bone that is sticking out and setting the toe joint in a better position.
Bunion surgery is a day surgical case, and you will usually walk out of the clinic using crutches.
